We chose now instead of "someday"

Hey, Friend

This week, I'm talking about not waiting around for "someday" and downsizing for travel without getting overwhelmed.

If you want an adventure, go get one.

Years ago, while driving a back road somewhere in Colorado, we passed a ranch with a simple metal arch that read: SOMEDAY.

I remember tearing up. Not because it was grand, but because it was honest.

This ranch owner didn’t just dream about their “someday”—they built it.

My “someday” didn’t look like a ranch or a piece of land in the mountains. It looked like the ocean. It sounded like waves and seagulls. For me, it was closing my laptop at the end of a day and watching the sun set from the cockpit of our sailboat. It was building a life around values, not schedules.

But even knowing that, it still took time to get here.

Now, my husband and I live and work from our sailboat. It’s not a vacation, but it's a choice... It's often challenging, but it's an incredibly rewarding life that we designed for ourselves.

We talk a lot about freedom. But freedom doesn’t just mean packing a bag and going somewhere new. It means getting honest about what isn’t working in our lives.

It means not pouring more time or money into something just because we already started.

I’ve learned that the hard way. Looking back, I’ve made plenty of mistakes, but most of them weren’t because I took a risk. If anything, they were because I waited too long to make a change.

Lewis and I aren't thrill-seekers. We didn’t jump into this lifestyle on a whim. We’re just two people who decided that building something meaningful was worth the discomfort of change.

So if you’ve got a “someday” in your heart, don’t put it on the shelf for later. Start designing around it now, intentionally, in a way that fits your life.

Not everyone wants to sail around the world. But everyone wants to feel alive.

Don’t wait for the perfect time.

Whatever it looks like for you, build your "someday" now.

Make it count,

📚 Here's a book I like...Don’t Say That! by Anik Singal.

Anik shares what he learned—the hard way—about how government agencies check online content. If you're building a business, it's good to know how to stay off the radar. It's never too early (or too late) to do things the right way.

You can check it out here. (The link is mine...I'm following what I learned! 😊).

Hey Reader Have you seen the articles floating around online about the dangers of AI? This week, I read an MIT study about "cognitive debt." The premise is that using AI makes us mentally lazy and reduces our ability to think clearly. I don't know about you, but that's not my experience at all. AI doesn't make me feel dumber. It makes me feel smarter than ever. It's like having a business partner who's available 24/7, never gets tired, and helps me expand on ideas I never would have time to...
